Today I want to tell you about a move. Because I am moving from my old apartment in Munich-Schwabing in a new apartment, not far away.
If you want to move, then there is chaos. There is so much to do! First you have to find a new apartment, which is usually only in cities like Munich with a broker. This broker is the mediator between the landlord and tenant. This requires the tenant to pay it, usually with two months' rent the new apartment. It's called commission or brokerage. That's a lot of money, but it's not all. When one moves into a new apartment, you must deposit a security deposit. This means that you are the owner of the money that kept in a separate account. These are usually in a big apartment around 3000 €. The money you get back when you take off. If you've destroyed in the apartment but something that the landlord can keep the money to repair the damage.
In Munich, an apartment will cost about ten euros per square meter per month. 100 square meters cost you at least 1,000 € per month. If the location of the apartment is very good, it can sometimes be twice as expensive. In addition there are the heating and electricity bills and many other fees, such as for cable TV. A home is not easy to find. The Internet and classified ads in newspapers to help with the search. Then you must pay attention to many things. Is the location good? Is it near a commuter train or subway or a bus? Is there parking? The apartment has a kitchen or do you only buy one yourself? Is it an old or new? Is it loud in the apartment because it is situated on a main road? Can I keep pets?
If you would like to then move into the new apartment, you can get help. For example, a shipping company. As you can hire movers trying to carry the heavy boxes. In my case it is convenient, because I move to the third floor, no elevator. But that costs money.
And then there's the paperwork. So the official site of the move. You must register with the National Register and give notice here, that you move. The registration office is a huge government agency that holds all German citizens and their residence. Then the post office will be notified. You may submit a forwarding order. This one gets half a year after moving the mail that arrives at the old address is automatically forwarded to your new address. Also, it costs money, of course. And then there's the phone you want in your new home so finally have phone and internet. Then want insurance to be completed again, friends and family need to know the new address, the old house must be painted and cleaned, the bank needs to know about it, that the rent will be paid immediately to the account of another landlord, and so on, and so on. I have a long list of things here that I have done yet. I prefer namely by mid-March. Keep your fingers crossed that everything goes well!
