# 024: German Music
April 16th, 2008 by admin

For a long time in Germany, almost all bands who have sung in English. It was as cool as a state, particularly internationally. Then in 1976 came the so-called German New Wave. The musicians began to sing again in German. Very famous are also internationally Nena, Trio, the group, and of course Falco. Do not worry if you've seen nothing here - Falco singing Austrian.

I myself was born in 1976, that is, from the German New Wave, I have not notice much. But the songs I know, of course, anyway - because many of them are still played at parties. Oh, if we're at it, I play just before you even a song that is missing at any party: marble, stone and iron breaks. That was a song from 1965 sung by Drafi German. I've heard as a child by my parents, but other music, such as Reinhard Mey. His most famous song is probably "Above the Clouds". It deals with the feeling of sitting in an airplane and fly. Reinhard Mey still makes music and touring. The special thing about him is that he writes very poetic lyrics that are often very demanding. And he sings very, very clearly, but sometimes very quickly ...

We stick to the older gentlemen, because one of them has not updated headlines in Germany. It is Udo Lindenberg. Udo knows everybody in Germany. He wears a lip like Sylvester Stallone, always a hat and sunglasses and lives in Hamburg at a hotel. Now he has just released a new album, but I'm afraid you will not understand what he sings, as Udo's mumbling is his trademark.

As difficult to understand - also for German, is Herbert Grönemeyer, but I do not want that you are frustrated. So now we go to more recent music. We look at the charts, which is the German word for charts or Top Ten. There you can find at the moment a band called "I + I". This is a duo that produced melancholic pop music. Another well-known duo: Rosenstolz. And another duo: 2Raumwohnung. By the way, are the female members of 2Raumwohnung and "I + I 'sisters and well known in Germany: Inga and Annette Humphrey.

Now I have three more bands for you, which I often confuse themselves honestly. All have a female singer, perhaps it is what confuses me. And all the big hits have written. The first is the band in July of Hesse, then there's the band Silbermond from Saxony, and last but not least, the four band members from Berlin of "We are heroes."

If you were at the Munich Oktoberfest celebrates after skiing in the mountains in a cabin, then you know DJ Ötzi also determined. He is Austrian and makes party music such as this one, also in the charts for weeks. And if you're a teenager and has lived in Germany, then you were probably fans of four boys from Magdeburg called Tokio Hotel.

But I want you actually imagine music that I find you well. There is, for example, Roger Cicero, the German big band swing music making and singing wonderfully humorous texts. The same author writes the way the lyrics to Anne Murray.

Sings hits from the 20's Max Raabe, who walks with his palace orchestra around the world on tour and also has very funny lyrics with the luggage. There are many other German musicians who sing in German, in fact in any musical genre. For the Soul corner Joy Denalane is responsible, where she also sings in English.

Then of course there are now some honest punk rockers or become like the dead trousers, and of course there are also competitions in Germany as "Germany seeks the superstar" or "pop stars", ie, talent shows, where new talents are being sought. In Austria, was discovered at such a show Christina Stürmer, a real talent.

And for fun, and then finally the band fat bread with a catchy tune. Do you know what is a catchy tune? This is a song or a tune that you have constantly in mind and do not want to disappear. A nice word, huh?

Oh yes, hip hop or rap, of course, we have in Germany, the best known representatives are as the Fantastic Four. But they rap so fast that I not wanted to do.

    Annik love,

Today I found the podcast really random, because I had thanks to the Internet access to a computer, another student who had it in their iTunes podcast.
It would have been even better if I had known sooner! I think it's incredibly great because you can learn all about the same time German and German culture!
    THANK YOU!!

    Dear Annik,

I just wanted to mention another group Which is really good and your listeners might like. They are called "Madsen". The singer speaks very clearly, and the music is wonderful. Here in the states we can get their album "Goodbye logic" and "peace in the war," but I think there are more available.

Thank you for the wonderful episode about music, and for all the others as well!

This podcast is great! I've since learned from high school four years Duetsch. I live in Chicago and I have to speak German or not often the chance to hear, except of course in my German class. Once I was in Germany and I've driven in Vienna, and both have precipitated me. I want to also learn about homosexuality in Germany, because that's me. I want to live in Germany and I want to know what I could expect.

    Thank you for this podcast!
