# 029: The Lives of Others
June 26th, 2008 by admin

The Lives of Others I want you to imagine today, for once a German movie that you should look at you. It's called "The Lives of Others," and was awarded an Oscar. I want to tell you why from him, because he shows an important part of German history.

The focus of the drama is Gerd Wiesler. He is a captain in the Stasi. The Stasi was the Ministry for State Security in the GDR, the German Democratic Republic. 1984 Gerd Wiesler gets the job in East Berlin, a playwright to spy on. He should listen then as a spy. Wiesler sitting there in the attic, has headphones on and listen to what's happening in the apartment of the writer everything. What this leads to? He plans activities against the East German system?

The longer Wiesler eavesdrops the writer and his girlfriend, the more it changes. He feels sympathy for these people, he wants to protect her and not hurt them. This he puts himself in danger. As the film goes out, I will not tell you. But I can tell you that it is one of the best films I've seen. This is not least because the best German actors play in this film. The main role of Gerd Wiesler, Ulrich is difficult to see who unfortunately died shortly after the Oscar ceremony with cancer. Sebastian Koch and Martina Gedeck are spied on the pair.

The film is narrated exciting and emotional, and behind the story is a guy named Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck. He has written the screenplay. The idea had been to film school, but then it took to write it back to a monastery, so he had complete rest. Donnersmarck also directed this film, which was released in 2006 in Germany. Although the film only cost 1.8 million euros and thus a low-budget film was, he had enormous international success. More than two million people have seen it in Germany alone in the cinema.

Hi, Annik, I thank you very much for your explanation about the film "The Lives of Others" because I already have many times seen. The scenes are so well known to most Chinese, but it takes even more so in China. I know not when our leaders also make such a film like this can

I am a new user. Many thanks for the Slow Deutsch! Out! Thank you for your criticism, and news about the lives of others. He's my favorite movie. There are few heroes when you have power. Force is always a pernicious influence. But Gerd Wiesler was a man and a hero. (Apologies for the incorrect German!)

    Hi Annik,
Thank you for the Fantastic podcast, he helps with our homework. I also think that the movie is really good. I sometimes wonder where the Stasi are all well today? Please write to me.

I'm just "The Lives of Others", and to be awake now and have a stomach ache if the trivialization of such a theme. Even a "hero" here is the question. Since I have to puke! A captain in the Stasi show feelings ... If you come to not realize that goes with it then? The actions of each IM is reprehensible enough and actually nverzeihbar, but the suggestion of a Stasi captain was a "good person" is an insult to all those affected.
