Slow German # 046: German Art
February 19th, 2009 by admin

Some time ago I was in the Franz Marc Museum in Kochel. Because Sarah has asked me to talk about German art, I'll do that today. I'll tell you something from the Blue Rider.

The Blue Rider group in Munich was an artist. It was founded by Franz Marc and Wassily Kandinsky 1911th They wanted to liberate the stalled traditions of academic painting. They were joined by August Macke, Alexej von Jawlensky, Kandinsky and Gabriele Münter. All of them are still famous artists whose works appear in many museums around the world are. Together, they brought out an almanac and organized exhibitions.

The abstract, colorful and often graphic images acting by Wassily Kandinsky can be seen today on posters, postcards and all sorts of other things. It's actually almost a pop-art artist, even though he is not officially of course in this group. Franz Marc is famous for its increasingly distorted images of horses and other animals.

It is particularly interesting when you look in Bavaria for the traces of these artists. For example, they lived in Schwabing, more precisely in the Ainmillerstraße. Schwabing is a borough of Munich, who was famous in the 20s for its artists' studios. Here in the pubs met famous writers and painters. If the artist had enough of the city, they went to the countryside. Franz Marc and Kandinsky settled in Murnau on Lake Kochel. It's beautiful there - it travels from Munich about an hour into it by car to the south and the Alps. And then there is the one known as the Russian house where Kandinsky and Münter lived, and the just-renovated and extended Franz Marc Museum.

It is tragic that some of this interesting artist died so young. Franz Marc and August Macke fell in World War I, Marc was just 36 years old. Kandinsky returned to Russia and later lived in Paris, where he died in 1944. The Blue Rider no longer existed, in Munich, and was no longer an international art and culture capital.

If you come to Munich, then you have to necessarily go into the Lenbachhaus. The Lenbachhaus is my favorite museum. It is a beautiful villa that looks almost as if she were in Tuscany. She is located in Munich, right near the Place Royale. Here are many pictures of the Blue Rider can be seen, many of which were donated by Gabriele Münter, the city of Munich. Currently, a Kandinsky exhibition can be seen here, which later moves on to Paris and this year to New York.

What makes the German art scene today? She is still alive. There are some big names, but mostly they are men. For example, Joerg Immendorff and Georg Baselitz. I recommend to the works of Gerhard Richter , especially the older of his paintings.

    Hello,
Your offer meets a real need. Many students have trouble with the pace of listening.

The theme is great .... the text a little too long. For me, shorter texts would be optimal, since the concentration is often not as long lasting.

    Best regards
    Ruth

Great idea! But I think it would be a bit too much to adapt the texts to the CEFR. Perhaps a foreign language teacher could make exercise sheets and make available or is there already. I would like to explain ready to create practice sheets.
